Free Ski Shows on Lake Silver Make for Great Entertainment in Winter Haven

Alfa Romeo FIAT of Winter Haven Sponsors Free Monthly Ski Shows of the Past Cypress Gardens Ski Team

As many of the locals know, Winter Haven is so much more than Legoland Florida Resort and fishing on the Chain of Lakes (which we love, by the way). For those who want to see and experience what Central Florida is all about, don’t miss the free monthly shows of the Cypress Gardens Water Ski Team. It’s an exciting show, highlighting the dexterity and stunts of the skiers, and Alfa Romeo FIAT of Winter Haven is proud to be a sponsor of the event!

Don’t Miss the Free Show in Winter Haven

The free shows are scheduled on the third Saturday every month on Lake Silver. The pre-show starts at 5 p.m. and the show gets underway at 6 p.m. Bring a lawn chair or blanket as you sit on the grass beside the lake to enjoy the entertainment. There are hot dogs, snacks, candy, popcorn, water, and soft drinks for sale. There are also t-shirts and hats for sale.

For those who can think back this far, the team was started by former water skiers from the Cypress Gardens Theme Park, which is where Legoland is now. The first show was in 1943 and they skied until the park closed in 2009. They wanted to continue entertaining people and continued to do their show on Lake Silver.

In its 75 years, millions of visitors to the park were captivated by the barefoot skiing and the seemingly gravity-defying stunts, the pyramids and more. The show was so popular that Winter Haven became known as the “Water Ski Capital of the World,” with the team reportedly breaking more than 50 world records.

The ski team isn’t the only team to break records in Winter Haven, however. Our team at Alfa Romeo FIAT of Winter Haven are the first Alfa Romeo salesmen in Polk County, and we’re conveniently located between Orlando and Tampa. Stop by our dealership to meet some of our five-star team and check out our new inventory while you’re at it.

Tips for Car Maintenance in the Central Florida Heat

The team at Alfa Romeo of Winter Haven has compiled a detailed inspection for your car to ensure you stay safe on roads this summer.

It’s August and for our full-time Florida residents, you know what that means— It’s going to be “Florida Hot” for the next two months.  With temperatures in the higher 90s and humidity that makes it feel like it’s raining when it’s not, it’s the perfect weather for the beach, but when you leave you want a reliable, working car. That means taking time for special car maintenance, especially in the summer months, and all of us here at FIAT of Winter Haven are here to help you stay on the road.

Care Tips for the Hottest Florida Days

Make sure to be checking the odometer, which tells you the heat of the car. To maintain adequate temperature, keep the car full of antifreeze. Most people can check this themselves. Also, check the coolant levels, the motor oil and the windshield washer fluid. The caps all have labels on them and the containers have lines on how high to fill it.

The hot weather may be the battery’s worst enemy. According to the American Automobile Association, heat can wear out a battery faster than cooler temperatures can. You should make sure the battery has the power you need and is secured tightly because moving around is not good for the battery’s life either. If the battery is more than 3 years old, check it out and see if a new one is in order or how much longer this one will last. You should also keep an eye on the battery fluid and check for corrosion as heat can cause faster buildup.

The heat can also wear the belts and hoses in your car. They are made of rubber and long exposure to heat can cause cracking. As a preventative measure you should check the hoses at least once a year, but checking them more often in the summer can help keep the car running perfect.

Keep an eye on the tires as well. Heat will expand the air in the tire and that leads to the possibility of a blowout. No one wants a blowout on the way to the beach! So, purchase an affordable pressure gauge to ensure tire pressure levels are ideal for your vehicle. You can also check them for free at most gas stations.

Now there is something that is one of the most important features of a vehicle while living in Florida during the summer and that’s the air conditioning. Have your mechanic check the air conditioner because, frankly, wouldn’t that be better than getting out of the car with a sweaty back?

If these items require replacement, you are going to need a mechanic and FIAT has a free Multi-Point Vehicle Inspection and you don’t have to make an appointment or bring in a coupon!

Meet Service Team Member: Tim Crowder

A Service Manager that Cares for his Customers

When people at work say they’re all over the place, Alfa Romeo FIAT  service manager Tim Crowder can perfectly relate.

Working with Alfa Romeo FIAT since February, Crowder has been involved with multiple areas of the dealership, gaining valuable experience along the way.

“I’ve worked with parts, service, and body shop. I have had a foot in all of it for a number of years,” he says.

After a decade of experience in the car and service industry, Crowder understands that you will never know everything and is always striving to learn more.

“I would like to think that every day is learning day.”

He feels fortunate to work for the Mahalak Auto Group as the family-owned business shows they care for the community and they make the employees feel good about working together.

“I’m very particular who I work for. I was born and raised in Polk County, and I love it here. Sometimes it’s hard to find a place where owners care about the people and employees,” he explains.

The service manager

On the job, Crowder is usually the first person you see at the dealership in the morning and about the last person to leave. A typical day sees Crowder doing a number of different duties. After opening the shop, he runs through the reports to see how the dealership is doing financially. Throughout the rest of the day, he does his best to meet as many of the customers as he can.

“I try to put my hands on every car here, even if that’s not doable, it sets a high standard for myself and the other workers here,” he says.

Crowder also spends a lot of time working with his staff.

“I want to see if people are doing the right things to keep the customer happy,” he says.

When customers come to the service department, he works as hard as he can to direct the customer right and make sure they are informed and understand the problems and the service being done.

“I spend a lot of time repairing cars and see the repair is worth it or whether it has to be traded in,” he says.

At Alfa Romeo FIAT, our company is comprised of many great employees, just like Tim Crowder. If you’re experiencing an issue with your vehicle, schedule an appointment with our Service Department. Our highly qualified technicians are dedicated to providing outstanding service in a timely manner.
